How do Victoria's Secret models prepare for the runway? A 24-karat gold face mask, of course. Unfortuately, the luxury treatment comes with a $300 price tag. But it was only a matter of time before clever beauty bloggers discovered a way to recreate the formula at home. Yesterday, Farah Dhukai shared a video on Instagram of how it's done, and she spent less than $20 for all of the ingredients (that's about $6 per use). The best part: Her DIY tutorial only requires two items—edible 24-karat gold sheets and rosehip seed oil.

In the clip, Dhukai started by applying one drop of oil to her forehead and on each cheek. Then, she rubbed it all over her skin and gently pressed the gold sheets in place. The thin foil was tough to maneuver, but Dhukai managed to cover her entire face. Then after a few minutes, she removed theDIY mask with the help of more oil. Her skin was left with a nice glow, but in the video's caption Dhukai gave credit to the rosehip seed oil for the dewy effect. The try-anything beauty blogger isn't a huge fan of the homemade concoction. "TBH, it looks cool on the 'gram, but cool is as good as it gets," Dhukai added to the caption. "The gold leaf is not very effective on its own because of how hard it is to apply."
Even though this gold mask is hard to DIY, the metal does have qualities that make it good for the skin. "Gold has been used in inflammatory conditions within rheumatology—and even dermatology," Eric Meinhardt, M.D., board-certified dermatologist, founder, and medical director of California Dermatology Specialists, tells SELF. "These effects can help the skin by decreasing inflammation, which can lead to aging and acne." But that doesn't mean you should rush toAmazon to buy gold sheets for your next at-home facial. Meinhardt says that in rare occasions it can cause "allergic dermatitis with redness, flaking, and itching.” That's why the skin expert wouldn't recommend these DIY treatments to his patients.
