When a family adopted their dog Duke from a shelter, they never imagined he would be responsible for saving their newborn daughter’s life.
One Sunday night, 6-year-old Duke jumped on to the family’s bed and began shaking uncontrollably. The Brousseau’s immediately woke up as this behavior was odd for Duke, although they were definitely irritated at first.
“He is insanely obedient, so this was extremely bizarre,” Jenna Brousseau told WFSB News. Duke had never acted like this before, so they knew something had to be wrong.
When they went into their 9-week-old daughter Harper’s room to check on her, and they discovered she wasn’t breathing. According to ABC News, Jenna’s husband called an ambulance, and baby Harper was taken to the hospital and revived by paramedics.
“If Duke hadn’t been so scared, we would have just gone to sleep,” Jenna Brousseau said. Luckily, the family was alerted to the baby’s condition in time for her to make a full recovery.
Duke wound up saving their daughter’s life! Jenna Brousseau said, “He’s the perfect dog,” Jenna said. “He was meant to be ours.”
